In 1975 Kaicho Adams began training in the art of the Sword from Soke Joe Ruiz. Soke taught basic sword techniques, the gata (Sange no Katanna/Omori Ryu Katanna), and multiple defensive attacks.  In 1984 Kaicho learned  Mugai Ryu Hyodo Iaido from Soke Shogo Kuniba. Soke Kuniba taught Kaicho the 13 sitting and standing gata. In 1998 Kaicho learned the Seita Gata from Shihan Kiyoshi Yamazaki. In 2009 Kaicho Adams created a new style encompassing the total acquired knowledge of over 36 years of training. Kaicho added two gata to the original 13 gatas of Mu Gai Ryu (yoko tsuki shitagiri/Kesagiri Mawate yokogiri) All previous gata have been retained exactly as learned by Kaicho Adams. Taking Kaicho Adams' first name of Ricky (adopting Riki as spelling) adding Ha (influenced) Kaicho created Riki-Ha Mu Gai Ryu Iaijutsu.  Kaicho holds the rank of Kudan (9th Degree Red/black belt) with all other ranks relative to his.
